How long is Tech Camp?
Tech Camps are held over four days (usually Monday through Thursday) or one evening a week for four weeks.
Each camp session is between two and three hours (four sessions in total).
How old are the students who attend Android Camp?
Students who will have completed third through eighth grade by the end of the school year are eligible to attend camp.
How much does Tech Camp cost?
The fee for each camp is either $85 or $135 (depending on the camp program chosen). Parents may also need to purchase equipment for the program they have chosen. Equipment costs are outlined in the "Where to Buy" section of each camp website (AndroidCamp.pro, ChromebookCamp.pro, CircuitCamp.net, CoderCamp.pro, WindowsCamp.pro). The camp fees payment schedule is written on the Camp Pre-Registration page. $50.00 is due via credit card at the time of pre-registration.
Should I let my camper open all of their equipment prior to the start of camp?
No. Once you receive your gear, please keep it sealed and in a safe place. Campers will unpack their equipment together and learn important first-time use information about their devices. They will also learn how to restore their equipment to its original functionality should the need arise.
When should I order the equipment my camper needs for camp?
We recommend that you order your equipment at least 30 DAYS prior to your camp start date to ensure that it will arrive before the camp week begins. For Android Camp, Chromebook Camp, and Windows Camp we ask that you to wait until May 1 before ordering your gear so that we can ensure availability of the equipment that will be used with these programs.
What will campers learn at Tech Camp?
Outlines of each camp program are available on their respective websites (AndroidCamp.pro, ChromebookCamp.pro, CircuitCamp.net, CoderCamp.pro, WindowsCamp.pro).
Is transportation provided to get to and from camp?
No. Students will need their own transportation for each day of camp. Students will remain on campus during the hours of camp each day, and may only be picked up by the person designated by the camper's guardian when campers arrive for sign-in on opening day. Campers must be picked up by the designated person by the end of each day of camp.
Who are the camp instructors?
The instructors at Tech Camp are certified school teachers. Camp program materials are prepared by staff who are certified to teach in the areas of Technology Education, Business, Computer, and Information Technology, and Library Science (Media Specialist). All camp instructors are currently employed as teachers in public or private schools.
Will campers be able to install software on their devices after camp is over?
Yes. Apps that are compatible with the device used during camp can be installed.
Can I purchase apps to install on an Android device or Windows notebook computer?
Yes. Purchasing apps requires a credit card to be associated with the account setup on the device being used. This is in no way required in order to use the device however. Many apps are available to download for free.
Does the device used for camp need Anti-virus protection?
Campers will learn how install a security suite to help protect and against viruses and other malware on the Android phone and the Windows notebook computer. The Raspberry Pi and the Chromebook do not have options for these protections.
Does Tech Camp provide a warranty on camp hardware?
Any warranties on the hardware used at camp are provided through the original manufacturers of each product. No warranty on hardware is provided by Tech Camp.
Will my son/daughter need an e-mail address for camp?
All campers will need an account with Google in order to participate in Tech Camp with the exception of Circuit Camp participants. Students will need to setup an account with their parents prior to camp (directions for account creation will be provided prior to the start of camp). If a camper already has a Google account, that account can be used during camp. Campers participating in Windows Camp will also need a Microsoft account. Both Google and Microsoft accounts are free.
What will my son/daughter need to have at home in order to use their device when camp is over?
Campers will need to have wireless internet service at their home in order to fully utilize the features of their device. Wireless internet access is most essential for students participating in Coder Camp and Chromebook Camp. Circuit Camp students will not need internet access.
If I purchase a 19-inch HDTV as an accessory for Coder Camp, can it be used to watch TV?
Yes. It functions as any HDTV would. This means you can also use it to connect a game console (Nintendo, Xbox, PlayStation, etc.). Its small size and light weight makes it ideal for travel as well.
Is Tech Camp affiliated with Google or Microsoft?
Our Tech Camp programs are not affiliated with Google or Microsoft. Google simply provides the Android OS and Chrome OS as well as access to the Google App Store (Google Play) and Google services. Microsoft provides the Windows OS, access to the Windows Store, a free one year subscription to Microsoft Office 365, and Microsoft services.
Where did the idea for Tech Camp come from?
It's more crucial than ever that students learn about computer technology at an early age so they have an advantage in familiarity with technology. The earlier that students are exposed to technology, the easier it is for them to work with more advanced technology. Unfortunately, too many younger students are not prepared for the ever changing technological world we live in today.
Tech Camp was developed to help bridge the gap between what students aren't learning, with what they need to know in order to keep pace with 21st century technology.
